For the third year in a row, Mariam Boyd Elementary began its after-school Culinary Club. Fourth and fifth grade students use the school garden to grow delicious fruits and vegetables, and take what they grow to try new and old recipes. The goal is to engage more young people in the garden and allow them to gain an appreciation for vegetables by trying them in new ways. At our first meeting, we got our garden ready by forming rows; building a compost area; planting onions, beets, and greens; and also planting a blueberry bush. We're ready for our next meeting when we take a field trip to home garden! |
